Monday 3rd October 2022 marked the beginning of a brand new building project at Tanfield School.
The Music Department will be housed in a state of the art facility, with students enjoying this modern learning environment from January 2023.

“I am extremely excited to announce the plans. Over the last 3 years, we have improved the learning environment for our students significantly and the addition of a purpose built facility for our music curriculum provision has been in the planning for almost 18 months now. We are proud of the changes made at Tanfield as a result of over £2m investment since 2019 for our students and colleagues to enjoy. I’d like to thank the team at Eden Learning Trust for their support.” Jonny Coates, Chief Operating Officer, Eden Learning Trust.

Working alongside TG Escapes to bring our vision into a reality, this sustainable build will provide a large teaching area surrounded by six practice rooms.
The eco building, which is timber framed, is currently in production. Construction of the frame is mostly completed off site, which will allow for minimal disruption to our school environment.

“TG Escapes are delighted to partner with Tanfield School and the Eden Learning Trust to deliver this purpose-built music facility on this wonderful site with strong heritage wrapped up within its wooded surroundings.” Ben Lowe, TG Escapes.

We are indeed privileged to be surrounded by nature at Tanfield and we wanted to ensure this new build fitted in with our current landscape, “as conversations with the school progressed it because evident that our core values strongly overlapped including both parties clear commitment to sustainability and the environment. Our design utilises the latest sustainable technologies to offer an optimal environment for learning including air source heat pumps and passive ventilation systems delivered through modern methods of construction. We look forward to delivering this brilliant project which we hope will serve the school community for many years to come.”

The build will also offer opportunities for our students, who will hear from various contractors working on the project and the number of careers available in this industry. Further talks will be scheduled in the coming months.

Construction in the current economic climate can be tough, our TG Escapes has been of great support, Jonny Coates explains more, “To bring the project to fruition we have had to overcome volatile construction industry conditions and would like to thank our partner, TG Escapes, for supporting us throughout the process. I am sure the building will be well received by our students and provide a fantastic learning experience for generations to come.”
