We recently surveyed parents and carers about our remote education offering. Key findings are:
The vast majority (97%) are happy with the remote education provision and 92% are confident that their child is learning while at home.
94% told us that the work set for their child is at the right level of challenge and 92% agree that it was the right amount.
The vast majority of parents and carers praised the school for their dedication and efforts to make sure their children are still learning while at home.
95% think that students sticking to their normal timetable is the right decision and 90% stated that they are happy with every lesson being taught over a live Google Meet.
Here's some of the lovely things our parents had to say:
"Appreciate everyone’s efforts to deliver lessons on google classroom and the support given to students."
"My child does better at home than at school as there is no distractions"
"I think the support that the children are receiving from teachers is excellent."
"The provision provided by the school has been excellent."
"Outstanding remote learning way above other schools standards, the communication has been second to none. An amazing effort from everyone involved. Well done Team Tanfield you should all be very proud of yourselves."
"Much better this time, I like the fact my son is engaging in live lessons with all of his teachers, seeing and/or hearing them makes all the difference as there are clear expectations. I appreciate the amount of time and effort that has gone into making this remote learning a success and allowing my son to continue learning whilst having some kind of normality Mon-Fri. Thank you!"
"School starts at our kitchen table at 8.40 each morning. The teachers have adapted their teaching and in some instances, the timing of the element of the curriculum taught, to fit the way home learning best works. I can hear enthusiasm, (lots of) patience, praise and professionalism from teachers throughout the day. In addition, I have received excellent support through Pastoral teaching and 'The Link' staff, which has ensured our SEND plan is appropriate and functioning. This process is still following the usual yearly timetable! Then, unbelievably, there is also a Wednesday chess club, a weekly session/group lesson from the Autism peripatetic support and a guitar lesson, live online each Friday. Thank you for this excellent undertakingand your hard work."
"I think you are all doing a fabulous job. Thank you."
"Mr Davison has been fantastic in ensuring that we have known what to do to ensure Patrick continues to learn. Thanks to him and all of the team."
"Remote learning is working well for my child."
"I can’t thank the staff at Tanfield enough. The education provided for my son during these exceptionally difficult times is excellent and staff are always available and able to help. Huge thanks to Mr Clough and the team."
"The teachers at Tanfield are doing a brilliant job at online teaching, I feel that my child is enjoying this different type of learning but she is still looking forward to the day when she can go back into school."
"Think you are all doing a fabulous job under very difficult circumstances. Son is working hard everyday & learning. No complaints at all."
"I'm extremely grateful to the Tanfield staff who have provided such high quality education through both lockdowns."
"Tanfield is doing an amazing job at keeping the kids up to date with their education and we are extremely thankful for that."
"A very big thanks to Sarah Johnson, Miss Shotton, Miss Malia and Miss Brown for Tammy in English, they have all been very supportive to both girls and a credit to your school."
"In my opinion the school has done an excellent job in providing remote learning in trying circumstances and with little notice."
"There's been a consistent and high level of teaching, and as a parent, it is much appreciated."
"You are all doing a fantastic job."
"I am extremely grateful for the hardwork and dedication to my child’s education provided by Tanfield, and I actually think it is superior to other secondary settings. He is engaged; puts his all into lessons because of the constant interaction with staff; and was thrilled to achieve star student and then the attendance award. These are all great incentives. The completing of the full timetable provides us with reassurance that he is fulfilling the year 7 curriculum therefore reducing potential gaps."
