Students Win Robotics Competition

Throughout the 2014/2015 academic year, a group of Year 10 students have been building, testing and programming a VEX Robot to take place in the VEX Skyrise challenge. The robot was designed and built during lunch times and after school, during which engineers from Dyer Engineering came along to work with our students in the production of the robot. Dyer Engineering provided invaluable sponsorship for the team, allowing us to build a really competitive robot.

Despite facing very tough competition the robot designed by the Tanfield team came second place out of 14 at the end of the heats, losing only once. During the alliance knock out phase, Tanfield joined forces with the first placed team, this alliance went on to win all of its knock out games to become tournament champions. Both teams now progress on to the national finals at the Big Bang event at the NEC in Birmingham.

Team Tanfield also won the sportsmanship award for all the help they gave the event organisers at the start of the day, through setting up team tables and the practice arena.
