During weeks 1, 2, 5 and 6 of the 2020 summer break Tanfield organised a summer school for students in Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The summer school consisted of a blend of academic and enrichment activities. Year 4 and 5 students were involved in a variety of lessons which developed their numeracy and literacy skills but also had a subject specific focus. Taster lessons included: geography, science, maths, english and french. The enrichment focus was based around team building tasks, arts and crafts and sporting activities. Each day ran from 10-2 and included lunch to sample the expected lunch menu which our catering company Aspen offers.

For Years 6, 7 and 8 the academic focus was more narrow and students followed an English and Maths booklet created by our specialist primary school teacher who planned all of the catch up material and taught this in a fun and engaging way. Again our enrichment focus was based around team building tasks, arts and crafts and sporting activities. Each day ran from 9.30-pm and included lunch using our catering provider.
